Not only is this a cool picture but it also reminded me of something interesting I recently read. It comes from a book Erin let me borrow titled "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn. It reads "Then, on Oct. 12th (1492) a sailor call Rodrigo saw the early morning moon shining on the white sands, and he cried out. It was an island in the Bahamas, the Caribbean sea. The first man to sight land was supposed to get a yearly pension of 10,000 maravedis ($1,300) for life, but Rodrigo never got it. Columbus claimed he had seen a light the evening before. He got the reward."

That is sad about Rodrigo. The picture is beautiful isn't it!
ReplyDeleteI am sure he was bitter for a good while. It really is! When looking at old art or really anything that is older it is cool to think of how it was created. The difference between technology now and then and the impact it makes on the way things are done is very interesting.
